Composer and Pianist
Gabriel Adédèjì is an acclaimed composer and pianist whose remarkable musical contributions are shaping the landscape of West African classical music. Hailing from Nigeria, he draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Yorùbá folklore, which he experienced through the captivating tales told by his late mother. These tales, often intertwined with music, have deeply influenced Gabriel's artistic vision, fostering a profound connection to the musical culture of the Yorùbá people.
His musical journey commenced at the age of 7 when he was introduced to drumming, eventually mastering the talking drum. Later, he discovered his passion for keyboards while playing at his father's church, setting him on the path to a career in music. Gabriel's education includes studies at the Peter Kings College of Music, Society of Performing Arts of Nigeria, and the Musical Society of Nigeria. Currently based in Lagos, he is actively involved in teaching, composing, and performing.
Gabriel's talent extends beyond his solo endeavors. He serves as an arranger for the Loveworld Orchestra and holds the role of resident pianist and Assistant Music Director of the Arts in Medicine Fellowship in Nigeria.
Throughout his career, Gabriel has collaborated with numerous esteemed musicians, both nationally and internationally, showcasing the diversity of his musical prowess. His compositions have been performed by renowned orchestras in Nigeria, such as the Muson Orchestra, Vesta Orchestra, Dulcis Orchestra, and ACE Orchestra.
Among his notable works are compositions like Tẹramọ́ṣẹ́, Abule, Ajo, Ọmọ́wùnmí, Ṣọbọ, Erujeje, Tujuka, Ọpẹ, Lau Erebe, Iya Alakara, and Malaika, to name just a few examples of his vast repertoire.
Gabriel's music has also resonated beyond his home country, with his compositions being performed at esteemed institutions such as Trinity Laban, University of Pittsburgh and University of Notredame showcasing the global reach and appeal of his artistic vision.
